Aeryon Labs Drone Aiding Firefighting Efforts in Fort McMurray

Article via The Waterloo Record¬†– A drone produced by Waterloo’s Aeryon Labs is being used to assess efforts to fight forest fires in the Fort McMurray area.

Ventus Geospatial, an Aeryon customer since 2011, received Transport Canada approval this week to fly the SkyRanger drone in restricted airspace over wildfire regions. The special flight operations certificate allows the Calgary-based company to assist with the fire response for a limited period of time, Aeryon said.

Aeryon noted that this is the second time one of its customers has received this kind of approval. In September 2015, Integrated Information Systems Ltd. received permission to fly an Aeryon drone in areas in British Columbia where wild fires were spreading.
