Waterloo Region’s Most Promising Startups Go Head To Head

GTAN|START: Waterloo Region’s Ultimate Early-Stage Pitch Competition

WATERLOO REGION – Golden Triangle Angel Network (GTAN) has announced the eight startups that will be competing in their highly anticipated pitch competition: GTAN|START taking place on May 8th, 2015.

GTAN|START is an annual event that celebrates dynamic early-stage companies, who have demonstrated the originality, skills and experience necessary to make them some of Waterloo Region’s most promising startups.

The eight startups have been invited to compete for one of three exciting cash prizes: Gold $10,000, Silver $5,000 or Bronze $2,000. In addition to the prize money, all three will be fast tracked to pitch at an upcoming GTAN investment meeting, with the intent on wooing the Angels into a larger financial investment which will meet the real needs of the company for growth capital moving forward.

“They will pitch to over 100 Angel investors, venture capitalists and industry leaders from this region and beyond,” explains GTAN’s President and Co-Founder, Rob Douglas. “By the end of the day, the expert panel of judges will vote and crown the top three 2015 GTAN|START winners.”

Twenty-three dynamic entrepreneurs pitched to GTAN’s selection panel on April 9th, from which the top eight were chosen. While all of the early-stage companies that presented are local, unique and very promising ventures, the Top eight stood above the rest.

“We want to see startups succeed, and competition is healthy,” says Douglas. “We want to see great ideas turn into inspiring, investible companies, that’s what GTAN|START is about.”

GTAN appreciates the support it has received from its community and its GTAN|START contributing partners: Accelerator Centre, Communitech, Conestoga College, Conrad Centre, Innovation Guelph, Laurier LaunchPad, Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and Velocity.
